Steampunk Meetup/Con and Other News

So, I need input for the convention/meet up as well as ideas for vendors, food, locations, movie showings, panels, etc. etc.

If anyone knows of a hotel in MD, VA, or NC that have room for conventions/gatherings please email me with their information. This goes for any convention centers as well. Also, if you have suggestions for ANYTHING or you are willing to volunteer, please let me know.

Right now we're looking to make this a 1 day event. Possibly 2 if we have enough people backing the idea. We could even possibly have Abney Park and some other SP-influenced bands play - but only if we can acquire the right amount of funds.

The staff and I are also looking into running a con based on old video games/movies/television shows - we may even combine the two, as odd as the partnering may seem.

In other news:
I have to be at work in 25 minutes...I'd prefer not to go. :]
I'm in the process of moving into a new house with 4 friends.
My girlfriend just lost her job yesterday... :[

Richmond Virginia Steampunk Meetup

So, I posted something similar to this on the Brassgoggles.co.uk forums, but I haven't received much a response yet. Basically I would like to get a group together for a Steampunk meet up in the Richmond City and surrounding areas. I would eventually like to host an SP convention, but we must take baby steps first.

If anyone is interested in helping in anyway, please comment either here or on the BG forum.
Also, if anyone is interested in getting together an SP group for the Anime Mid Atlantic con, please contact me.

Hot Topic is not Steampunk!

Yes, the title of this entry is a nod to MC Lars' "Hot Topic is not Punk Rock".

If you haven't already heard, take a look here: Steampunk at Hot Topic.

Now, I don't really have a problem with this as it will only make acquiring SP related items easier once the fad fades and dies. The only thing that irks me a bit is the fact that every mall goth and scene kid will be wearing goggles, neon colored vests and shutter shades. Hell, there may even be a few bands with a single vocalist and keyboardist rapping over half-assed emo-tronic beats. They could even dub themselves "Steamcrunk".

Perhaps I should copyright that name so I can get some royalties when the bands start getting popular.

Introducing...

Ello, everyone. I just thought I'd use my first entry to take the time to introduce myself - I am Anthony Brinley. I created this blog to rant and rave about various events in my life as well as the people I encounter.

While most of my blog will be focusing on Steam Punk and Neo-Victorianism, I will occasionally post entries about other, more mundane things. I will, however, attempt to at least make it somewhat interesting.

Now, I'll do an extremely brief synopsis of myself:

I'm 22 years old.
I enjoy music, video games, tabletop RPGs, movies, and collecting comic books as well as PVC figures.
I have dabbled in creating music from several different genres ranging from metal, noise, gabber, electronica, and nerdcore hip-hop.
Currently I am working on a Steam Punk rock opera based around an original story created by several close friends. I also live in a house with said friends.
